Job Description

  • Develop, implement and facilitate training for the guides and environmentalists.
  • Manage and direct the environmentalists, guides and safari activities.
  • Ensure all guides have the necessary permits and certifications.
  • Evaluate lodge activities and introduce methods of improving current activities and continually upgrade the safari experience by implementing innovative and practical ideas.
  • Compiling monthly environmental reports and ensuring that lodge managers and lodge environmentalists submit reports, sighting, stories and photographs.
  • Recruitment of guides and environmentalists.
  • Ensure guiding and related equipment is maintained in good condition and correctly stored. Also ensure the standards and conditions of game drive vehicles.
  • Ensure guiding procedures and policies meet the Leading Quality Assurance standards.
  • Ensure all guides are trained and fully versed in Leading Quality Assurance standards.
  • Make sure the standards set are met and maintained by the Lodge Environmentalists and the guides at all times.
  • To escort/guide as well as host VIP's, private guiding requests and educational groups to lodges.
  • Visit the lodges on a regular base to allow inspections, evaluations and monitoring of the guides and operation standards.
  • To assist the General Manager in achieving and maintaining high standards of all operational, maintenance and environmental issues.
  • Contribute towards achieving the guest and operational standards of the brand and company requirements.
  • To insure the environment in which we operate is looked after and respected.
  • To ensure that the operation adheres to the Company environmental policy.
  • To represent the company in environmental issues and work hand in hand with relevant parties (inclusive of Government agencies and NGO’s.
  • Liaise with the Wildlife department and Department of Environmental affairs on all ecological and environmental issues on the company’s behalf.
  • To assist the maintenance team with any related maintenance issues and report related maintenance issues.
  • Cover weekend duty management shifts.
  • Deputise in the absence of other Executive Managers.
  • Fulfil the role of Lodge Manager as and when required.

Requirements

  • Five years relevant experience within a similar/senior management role, in the luxury hospitality sector.
  • Relevant management and or field/industry related diploma or degree (e.g. environmental management).
  • Proven leadership ability and experience in handling and coordinating different teams.
  • Exceptional communication, organisational amp; administrative skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of all lodge operations.
  • Previous substantive lodge management experience.
  • Professional guide licence and rifle handling proficiency qualification.
  • Have undergone first aid amp; firefighting training within the last two years.
